Note: The car window decals are a new addition, not listed on the order form, but will be on sale at all Candalaria Community events, and at the Popcorn Friday Table/Student Store starting October 20. Decals are 3"x7" and cost $5. (Car decals are the gray/white design, below right)

Every year we host two Scholastic Book Fairs in the school library. These book fairs offer a wide variety of books for all reading levels and interests. The proceeds from our book fair sales are invested back into Candalaria. For example, this year every student in every classroom received a subscription for Scholastic News, Dyna Math or Storyworks. In past years, we have purchased smart boards and other classroom equipment.
Our Spring Book Fair is scheduled for May 1-5. Each day the fair is open before school 8:30-9:05 am and after school 3:30-4:30 pm. We will also be open during Ice Cream and the Arts on Thursday the 4th from 6-8 pm.
Teacher bins are an important feature of our Candalaria book fairs. The bins contain books selected by your child's teacher that they would like in their classroom library. If you purchase a book for a teacher, you receive a 20% discount on the purchase.
If you don't know what books to buy for your child, our teachers also select books they recommend. Look for signs on the shelves that say "teacher pick" and you will know which teacher has made the recommendation. These teacher picks are usually the first to sell out at our fairs.

The 5th grade class went to Outdoor School in October. This was an amazing opportunity to spend a few days connecting to the outdoors, and to stretch their experience of education - kids gained a meaningful exposure to fields related to science, engineering, and the arts.
Why are we sharing this with you? Before the tax year closes, we invite you to help send our kids into nature to have this authentic hands-on and science-based learning activities with a contribution to the general costs of outdoor school. As a public school event we want to reduce the overall cost so that no child has a barrier in attending. Please note:

For those wondering about the recently passed measure that will support this activity for all kids in Oregon public schools, Measure 99, it does not go into effect until the 2017-2018 school year. As the measure is unfunded we are waiting to see what that means for the current 4th graders next year.
The kids learned at an assembly today that we hit our goal of $20,000! They were beyond excited to find out there will be an inflatable obstacle course in PE for a day. Click HERE to hear their excitement!
They also enjoyed the "special performance" by Mr. Paulson, who rode into the gym on his UNICYCLE! He encouraged kids to try new things and learn new skills, just like he did as a child when he learned to ride the unicycle.
It was a great assembly...Top runners were honored, raffle prizes were announced and the kids' accomplishments for running and fundraiser were celebrated. The PTA couldn't be more proud of the students and their efforts and attitudes!
We have reached the end of Funds Run season! The PTA would like to thank our amazing students, families and staff for making it the most successful season in recent memory. The kids ran 2,597 laps and raised $19,405.66! This money will provide enriching activities and experiences for every Candalaria student. We couldn't do it without each of you -- THANK YOU!!

Join us for Candalaria’s biggest fundraiser, the 11th Annual Dinner & Auction. It's a great opportunity to spend an evening out and enjoy the company of our school community. The funds raised help support programs for the whole school – classroom technology, supplies, books, field trips, clubs, and cultural presentations.
