The 5th grade class went to Outdoor School in October. This was an amazing opportunity to spend a few days connecting to the outdoors, and to stretch their experience of education - kids gained a meaningful exposure to fields related to science, engineering, and the arts.
Why are we sharing this with you? Before the tax year closes, we invite you to help send our kids into nature to have this authentic hands-on and science-based learning activities with a contribution to the general costs of outdoor school. As a public school event we want to reduce the overall cost so that no child has a barrier in attending. Please note:
Donations are easy! Click the donation link on the Candalaria PTA homepage, and list Outdoor School as the program your donation should benefit.
For those wondering about the recently passed measure that will support this activity for all kids in Oregon public schools, Measure 99, it does not go into effect until the 2017-2018 school year. As the measure is unfunded we are waiting to see what that means for the current 4th graders next year.
Coaching a Girls on the Run team is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences. Coaches use the 20 lessons to mentor girls to be more joyful, healthy, and self-confident. Coaches need not be runners; they just need to be individuals who want to be a positive influence and who are committed to developing and celebrating our youth. Teams meet two times a week for 90 minutes for ten weeks (not including no-school days). Practice Partners may also sign up for once a week team support. Come join us and end the season with a super motivating and exciting 5K Celebration. At the elementary level, Girls on the Run serves girls in grades three through five.
